Sayre vs Hobart

The Sayre Eagle High School baseball team broke a ten year drought when they toppled the Hobart Bearcats in a 4 inning run rule contest by the score of 13 to 2 on Eagle field last Tuesday evening. Hobart put across their first run in the top of the first inning which was unearned due to an Eagle error. Hobart got their first of 2 hits in the game on a single by the lead off batter. A walk and an error gave up a Hobart run before Rocky Willis struck out the next two batters to end the top of the first inning. The Eagles exploded in the bottom half of the first inning by tacking on 7 runs on 6 hits 2 walks and 2 Bearcat errors.

Hobart scored the second of their 2 runs in the game in the second inning on one hit, a walk and an error. The Eagles went 3 and out in their half of the second inning with the score reading 7 to 2. Starting pitcher Rocky Willis gave up two hits, walked two and sturck out 4 Hobart batters in his 2 innings of work. Tate Bawden came on to pitch for Sayre in the third inning and closed out Hobart’s top half with two strikeouts and a ground ball out on a throw to K K Beaird from short stop Camden Plummer.

Sayre mounted another big inning in their half of the third inning by scoring 6 runs on 2 hits, five walks and one error. That brought the score to 13 - 2 going into the fourth and final inning. In the inning Bawden struck out one and walked a batter before the Eagles turned an impressive double play to end the game when second basement JJ Beaird took a scoop and toss from shortstop Plummer and rifled it to KK Beaird at first base for the final two outs.

Zeke Curtis and Hunter Hanrahan each collected two hits while Tynan Gillispie led in RBI’s with 4 of the Eagles 13 in to contest. Plummer, Bawden, Willis and Gillispie each had one hit. The win increased Sayre’s win loss-record for the season to 7 and 4 and 3 and 0 in conference play.
