On Tuesday, February 20th, we celebrated National Future Farmers of America Week at the State Capitol.

National FFA Week is a time for FFA members to raise awareness about the National FFA organization’s role in developing future leaders and the importance of agricultural education.

As a proud Oklahoma FFA alum, I know firsthand how important National FFA is to our communities’ young adults and future agriculture leaders in Oklahoma. FFA chapters across Oklahoma are fostering the next generation of leaders who will change the world by teaching the skills and instilling the sense of service that they need to succeed.

I had the opportunity to visit with Geary and Elk City FFA. I pointed out that our office at the Capitol is unique because all three of us were officers of our FFA chapters. I, Rep. Dick Lowe, and our legislative assistant Holley Fulton, all served as FFA chapter officers during our time in the organization.

I am honored to support the Oklahoma FFA Foundation as it supports a culture of excellence in the instruction of science, technology, production, processing, and agribusiness related to agriculture. I will always be a strong advocate for agriculture at the State Capitol.

This week, I passed House Bill 3430 off the House floor. It renames Title 3 of the Oklahoma Statutes as Aerospace, Aircraft, and Aviation Infrastructure. It now moves to the Senate.

House Bill 3427 aims to encourage responsible gun ownership. Starting from the tax year 2025, the bill proposes to provide a tax credit equal to 50% of the purchase price of a gun safe, or other qualified lockable storage device, up to a maximum of $1,000. The idea is to incentivize individuals to store firearms responsibly.

I was thrilled to see the bill pass the Appropriations and Budget Committee, making it eligible for consideration by the full House. It received bipartisan support, with only one republican member voting against it.

I intend to continually keep you informed of what is happening at the Capitol. It is truly an honor and privilege to represent you at the State Capitol. As always, please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any concerns at (405) 557-7312 or at nick.archer@ okhouse.gov.

Nick Archer, a Republican, serves House District 55 in the Oklahoma House of Representatives, which covers Beckham, Blaine, Caddo, Canadian and Washita counties.
