Elk City woman released after 32 counts of forgery and one count of second-degree burglary

A 31-year-old Elk City woman has been released from the Beckham County Detention Center after being charged with 32 counts of forgery in the second-degree and one count of second-degree burglary.

A 31-year-old Elk City woman has been released from the Beckham County Detention Center after being charged with 32 counts of forgery in the second-degree and one count of second-degree burglary.

Kayla Shanae Smith faces up to seven years in prison if convicted.

The investigation includes checks allegedly stolen or were fraudulent from 2022 until January of 2024.

The affidavit claims each check was made to Smith and cashed at Great Plains National Bank.

The license number used to cash the checks reportedly came back to Smith.

The checks ranged from $421.11 to $905.01, the report states.
