Marvin Jay Anderson was born April 21st, 1933 to Marvin and Leona (Self) Anderson in Erick, OK. He passed on February 21st, 2024 in Elk City, OK at the age of 90 years and 10 months.

Marvin Jay Anderson was born April 21st, 1933 to Marvin and Leona (Self) Anderson in Erick, OK. He passed on February 21st, 2024 in Elk City, OK at the age of 90 years and 10 months.

Marvin grew up in Texola, OK. He attended Texola schools and graduated with the class of 1952. After graduation, Marvin enlisted in the Army on August 22, 1952. He was stationed in Darmstadt, Germany until he was honorably discharged in July 23, 1954. In 1955 Marvin enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served 3 years and was honorably discharged. On July 9, 1955, Marvin married Sue Hink in Clovis, New Mexico and to this union four children were born Michael Dean, Larry Marvin, Patricia Jonette, and Richard Irven.

While in the Air Force, Marvin lived in Dayton, OH and then moved to Pampa, TX were he worked for Cabot Oil and Gas Carbon Black Plant. After Pampa, TX, he moved to Beaver, OK and continued to work as a pumper for Cabot. In 1977 the family moved to Sayre, OK and Marvin became an insurance agent with American Trustee selling life insurance. He also worked at the Department of Corrections in Sayre for 17 years and the City of Sayre for 4 years before he finally retired in 2010.

Marvin served as the senior counselor for 18 years and athletic director for 4 years at Oklahoma Boy’s State. He also served as a basketball official in Oklahoma, Kansas, and Texas for 15 years. Marvin was a servant to the community. He was a member of the Lion’s Club, Booster Club, and American Legion Sayre 146. Marvin’s number one pastime was watching basketball. He never missed a game of his kids and grandkids. He was an avid fan of OU sports. He also enjoyed fishing. Marvin was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Sayre. He participated in the First Baptist Church Senior Choir. Foremost Marvin loved the Lord but just as important was his love for his family and the time he could spend with them.

Marvin is preceded in death by his wife Sue Anderson, parents Marvin and Leona Anderson, 3 sisters Joy, Elizabeth, and Linda (Obruni), brother-inlaw Bob Hink.

He is survived by his four children Mike Anderson of San Antonio, TX, Larry Anderson and wife Kay of Samnorwood, TX, Patti Wheeler and husband Wayne of Sayre, OK, Richard Anderson and wife Kim of Morgans Point, TX; 6 grandkids Kristie, William, Boz, Brittany, Brook, and Maeli; 17 great grandkids; 4 sisters Le Alta Smith, Sallie Chamber, Pat Wollitz, and Kathy Mayernick; many nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends.
