A 63-year-old Sayre man was sentenced to 25 years in the Oklahoma Department of Corrections on February 5 for one count of child sexual abuse.
For his guilty plea, Robert Brad Spitzer will be required to serve 15 years in prison.
Because of the nature of the charge, Spitzer will not be eligible to be released for at least 14.5 years.
He will then be required to register as a sex offender.
The charge was officially filed against Robert Brad Spitzer in the Beckham County District Court on March 6, 2023.
The investigation began at approximately 11:56 pm on March 1, 2023, when the Sayre Police Department received a phone call reporting the alleged sexual abuse of a minor.
The reporting party indicated that a child had been allegedly abused by Spitzer. Spitzer had reportedly been confronted about the al- legations and allegedly admitted that the allegations were true.
A Sayre Police Department investigator was advised that the reporting party requested that a welfare check for Spitzer be conducted prior to reporting the alleged abuse.
A welfare check was reportedly conducted, but Spitzer was not found to be a danger to himself at that time, the report indicates.
Due to the nature of the alleged crime, the Beckham County Record is withholding details specific to the allegations.
However, the SPD investigator was able to interview the reporting parties.
During the interview, the investigator reportedly learned specific details about alleged abuse.
The investigator was reportedly also given evidence that corroborated the allegations.
At approximately 6:30 am, the SPD investigator met with the SPD assistant chief and informed him of the situation.
At approximately 10:55 am, the SPD investigator and assistant chief arrived at Spitzer’s business in order to detain him for the investigation.
“Brad was informed that he was not under arrest and that he was only detained. Brad indicated that he understood. We then returned to the police department where I prepared to interview Brad,” the investigator wrote.
At approximately 11:20 am, Spitzer was read his Miranda Rights. He reportedly indicated that he understood and signed a Miranda waiver.
Spitzer allegedly admitted to 24 instances of abuse.
Spitzer then reportedly was given access to a computer to type a statement and an apology letter to his alleged victim.
“Signed print outs of the documents are included with this report,” the investigator wrote.
Spitzer was taken into custody immediately following his guilty plea.
