Merritt High School Earns Overall B in State Report Card

Merritt High School’s overall performance indicator for the 22-23 school year came in at 69 percent, while the state came in at 55 percent. The report card serves as an indicator of how the students are doing in a variety of areas. Those areas include academic achievement, graduation, chronic absenteeism, and postsecondary opportunities. MHS had no reportable data in the area of English language proficiency progress.

The school’s lowest indicator was chronic absenteeism. They earned 5.61 points out of ten points possible. They were at 82.95 percentage compared to the state’s 79.96 percent. These numbers resulted in a D on their report card.

The highest indicators for MHS were in graduation and postsecondary opportunities. The school earned A’s in both areas. They got 9.1 points out of ten, or 91 percent compared to the state’s 55 percent. In postsecondary opportunities the school earned ten points out of ten. They ranked 78.2 percent compared to the state’s 47.5 percent. This area measures life beyond high school, which enable students to participate in coursework and experiences that enhance their likelihood of success after school.

In the area of academic achievement, MHS earned 27 points out of a possible 45 points. In the composite score, they got 60.1 percent compared to the state’s 46.7 percent. These numbers measure the English language arts, math, and science.

The school earned 9.5 points out of 15 points in ELA, with 59 percent compared to 41.6 state percentage. In the area of math, MHS earned 10.2 points out of 15 points. They got 47.9 percent, while the state percentage was 40.5 percent. Science score for the high school was 7.3 points out of the 15 possible points. Their percentage was 39.8 percent compared to the state’s 44.9 percent.

Merritt’s assessment participation was 100 percent compared to 98.6 percent. The data that has been reported was based on the percentage of students that were enrolled at the time of testing who took a state test.

In the area of teaching experience, MHS has 84.2 percent of their teachers considered experienced, compared to the state’s 79.3 percent. With administration’s support, as well as the community’s involvement in the district, MHS is able to look to the future, plan their curriculum, and assess the testing results.
