A 26-year-old Elk City man has been charged with three counts of assault and battery, assault and battery upon a police officer, destruction of property, and resisting arrest.
Samuel David Mitchell has been released on an undisclosed bond amount from the Beckham County Detention Center.
The investigation began at approximately 3:27 pm on December 22 when Elk City Police Department received a call of a male subject breaking into a residence on the 700 block of West 5th Street.
Initial reporting claimed that man, later identified as Mitchell, had broke in the front door and started throwing furniture out of the house.
While en route, officers were alerted that the suspect had left the scene.
At 3:53 pm, officers learned that an alleged assault was happening at Walmart.
Officers arrived to find Mitchell “irate and screaming” in the parking lot.
Mitchell allegedly threw a traffic cone at one of the officers and hit him in the hand.
Mitchell allegedly yelled for officers to shoot him.
Mitchell was given commands, but reportedly did not comply.
Officers eventually deployed tasers upon Mitchell.
Three Walmart employees were reportedly assaulted by Mitchell.
Property damage that occurred during the alleged incident was reportedly $230.
