A 45-year-old Elk City woman has been released from the Beckham County Detention Center on a $10,000 bond after being charged with first-degree child abuse.

The investigation began at approximately 10:48 pm on December 12 when Elk City Police Department officers were dispatched to the 100 block of South Pioneer in Elk City.

The call was in regard to a female minor reportedly knocking on her neighbor’s door.

The person who called in the alleged incident said the minor’s mother was “laying in the floor of her camper throwing up.”

Some details within the report are being withheld by the Beckham County Record.

However, ECPD officers allegedly found the mother in a condition that they reportedly believed was intoxicated.

One of the officers asked the neighbor if the minor could spend the night at their home due to the mother’s alleged intoxication, the affidavit states.

Shannon Lee Mahan was identified as the mother. Mahan allegedly became “argumentative” to officers when she became conscious.

After officers transported Mahan to the ECPD municipal jail, they reportedly decided to bring the minor from the neighbor’s home.

One of the officers reportedly assisted the minor in finding shoes.

Mahan reportedly refused treatment from emergency medical services.
