Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) has named Rance Morrow of Cyril, Oklahoma as the Randy Beutler History Scholar for the 2023-2024 Academic Year.
Morrow is a Sophomore studying History Education.
The scholarship is furnished by an endowment which provides financial assistance in perpetuity to SWOSU students, faculty, and programs in honor of former SWOSU President Dr. Randy L. Beutler.
Beutler was named the 17th President of SWOSU in February 2010. Upon his retirement on July 1, 2021, he completed nearly 12 years leading the institution, becoming the fourth longest-serving president in institutional history.
Under his leadership, the largest building project in the history of the university, the 93,000-square-foot Pioneer Cellular Event Center, was completed. A partnership with Yukon Public Schools was conceived and implemented and the President’s Leadership Class, which Beutler developed while working under former SWOSU President, the late Dr. John M. Hays, was expanded.
Prior to being named SWOSU President, Beutler taught high school history and was elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives for District 60 in 1992. He currently is a partner in Beutler- Redd Ranches, a cow-calf ranch that operates north of Elk City.
The Randy Beutler History Scholarship Fund is stewarded by the SWOSU Foundation, Inc. The Foundation was established in 1977 to promote philanthropy, award scholarships, and distribute funds to support the activities and programs of SWOSU.
