A 58-year-old San Gabriel, California, man is being held on a $10,000 bond in Beckham County Detention Center after being charged with eluding police.

The investigation reportedly began at approximately 8:45 am on November 2 after the Beckham County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a possible vehicle fire on I-40 near mile marker 35 in the eastbound lane.

Two Beckham County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the call and reportedly found a purple semi parked on the south side of the interstate.

The reporting deputy could allegedly smell burnt rubber and observed a blown out tire.

The deputies spoke to the driver, Changqing Wu, and then informed dispatchers that it was only a blown out tire.

At this point, Wu allegedly drove away. The deputies got behind the semi and activated emergency signals.

However, Wu did not stop and reportedly drove on the right shoulder of the road, sending tire debris into the patrol vehicle.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol then joined the pursuit.

Wu eventually stopped. Wu was charged with a felony.
